I’ve noticed alot of posts that say that once you have a virus you will have it forever. This is true of viruses like HIV, Herpes, and the chickenpox viruses, BUT NOT TRUE OF ALL VIRUSES. Think about it. The common cold, hepatitis A, and the flu are both caused by viruses. You get rid of those - they are not forever. If you get the flu again, it is a DIFFERENT STRAIN (new infection). Here is an explanation of the immune system and how it handles viruses.

You have two types of defense against viruses: humoral immunity and cellular immunity. The humoral immune system attacks viruses when they are loose in the body. The cellular immune system destroys viruses once they have taken up residence inside the body’s cells.

The humoral response consists of antibodies made to specific viruses. These antibodies remain present in the circulation and secretions, hopefully eliminating the virus and protecting against future infections.

The cellular response consists of certain white blood cells, such as cytotoxic lymphocytes or natural killer cells, which attack and destroy our own cells that have been altered by viruses. By killing infected cells, the immune system kills the virus and cures you.

Some viruses, however can avoid detection by the immune system. Herpes and shingles hides out in the nerves - places where the white blood cells can’t get to. HIV hides in the immune cells themselves.

HPV used to be considered one of those permanent viruses. It now appears that it can be removed from the body by white blood cells like influenza can. Most women can get rid of the virus on their own, although some people cannot- thus the need to be screened regularly. There is still a debate about whether you will have HPV "forever". More than likely you will not.

I know, very uneloquent way of asking… but where are they on cures for things like Cancer, Hiv/Aids, Herpes, and etc.? I know they have had success with a new drug for Hep C. Anyone know where they are on the other two?

So Im pretty sure I have a fever blister(cold sore) now.I’ve read that herpes type 1 causes it but I havent had sex at all.Soo, can you get it from kissing?Ughh, I guess I have been really stressed lately but IDK what this means. Soo….could I have herpes or not?And how do I hide or cure cold sores?

i have this huge paranoia of getting sti’s. it all started after i was in a traumatic situation a few months ago. a 17 yr old guy pressured me to sex and i didn’t even know him. all i know was that he was my friend’s friend. a lot of drama’s happened after, me having to tell my mom about what happened and about the fear of getting infections and everything, my friends knowing about what happened. he used condom and everything but i was still paranoid so i got tested for sti’s and it was all clear. i told my boyfriend abt this and he’s been good and stood by my side since day 1 throughout all the stressed out/drama and disastrous events. i know u’ll think of me as a selfish bitch but… recently my boyfriend had a cold sore. then i freaked out. i know he’s a virgin and he has never been with anyone but me (we never had sex either). he said that he’s been having cold sores since he was 10 yrs old and told me not to freak out. i later searched up about cold sores and realized and its caused by another form of herpes, not the ones from sti’s. for some reason i felt grossed out and disgusted. when i read the article all i can think off was that "omg. i’ve made out with a guy who’s had herpes since he was 10" i kno its JUST a cold sore..but its still herpes.. should i be worried about this? and my friends have been telling me that its ok, cold sores have a cure. but why would i need a cure if i can prevent getting one?- by breaking up with him completely… but i already kissed him before, and i never had cold sores..

i know that i’ve already done what ever i’m afraid of doing… "kissing him coz i might get infected"… and nothing has happened. but i never kissed him with a cold sore before.. i just need some convincing or reasons if i should make up or break up… like the guy’s been really nice to me and he’s probably one of the best guys a girl could ever ask for… but the only thing that’s bothering me is the cold sore… and i read that the herpes virus stays in ur body even after the cold sore is gone.. i know its confusing but that’s practically whats on my mind right now..

we’re currently on a break right now, i talked to him about it, telling him how i can’t even think of touching or holding his hands because of my paranoia and that it probably means i haven’t moved on from my paranoia after what happeend to me and that i just need a break to think alone. and he told me that i was unfair for freaking out about a natural cold sore and how he didn’t say anything about me after what happened to me. but he told me to think it through… -by him telling me to think it through, does it mean that he still wants me to be with him or does he even care if i end it up with him? i really like him and he’s been respectful and everything.. but right now i just need to know if i like him that much to get over this fear. or that this cold sore-caused-by-herpes is nothing to be afraid about..

i never had cold sores when i was young as well. because i lived in warm place before i moved to canada. and we don’t normally get infections there as what kids get in cold places. everyone’s telling me that cold sores are normal, but from the place i grew up from, cold sores weren’t common, i don’t even remember if any of my relatives had one. except recently when she was working during a snow storm. but i’m certain i never had one before…or at least not yet.

I have been thinking about this recently. I think that in the United States we could achieve near complete eradication of syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia is everyone got tested for it, and treated if they had it. These 3 STDs are easily treated with a simple course of anti-biotics, and even when they are in the advanced phases they still only require a short stay in the hospital. Unlike HIV and genital herpes these 3 are easily diagnosed and cured.
And eradicating these diseases would decrease the incidence of HIV infection, since having another STD increases the risk of contracting HIV. It would also lower mortality among those who are HIV+ because having co-infections in HIV makes the disease progress more rapidly.

Now, I am not a fan of the government requiring people to do medical treatments, but this is one idea I think the government should pick up. The problem with these 3 diseases is that they often have no symptoms until later on in the disease. I know we couldn’t eradicate them entirely, because there are always people who travel to the US and there are people who still won’t get tested, but I think if the government put out some Public Service Announcements on these 3 that we could come pretty close to eradicating them.

Well I do have HSV-1 and I bet you do to, if you have had a cold sore then you are infected with HSV-1.

Okay well I have had a cold sore on my lip for a while now, but I dont care about that I always get cold sores.

I Now have an infection in my eye now because i touched my eye after touching my cold sore. I have it in one eye and I herd it can lead to blindness. Is it Rare ? and I have the Infection in my right eye will I get the herpes in my left eye aswell ?

I am scared because The HSV-1 aka Cold Sore might of turned in to Ocular Herpes witch is basically HSV-1 in my eye..

So just awnser these qustions:

. If i do have Ocular Herpes will I go blind for SURE.

. I currently have the infection in my right eye, and I read on a couple of sites that the infection is in one eye. Will it ifect my other eye later ?

. If the infection does go in my left eye will go blind in that eye to ?

. I know there is no cure but is it rare to go blind or is there a pretty good chance i will ?

Okay i went to the Doctors today he looked at my eye and said pink eye and I dont think i have pink eye i think he was to lazy to see what i have.

I think my boyfriend has the cold sore..on his lips.
It’s been there for two months already (I think) but I’ve always thought it was dry skin until my friend pointed it and out and asked me to check it out. As I look closely, it kinda matched with my research.. I could be wrong but to be on the safe side:

1. Could he gotten it from me? I know cold sores can be carried without having symptoms, but if he did get it from me, why did he only show symptoms recently, not when we went out? I barely share drinks and so does he.. I’m pretty strict on that stuff.
2. I know herpes isnt curable, but it could be healed or prevented. However he didn’t cure it right away, using alcohol. I see it getting worse, like white-ish bubbles appearing in his lips. They’re not extreme, but it’s noticeable..is that cold sores? He also has red scabs near it, and that part is red-ish.
3. How can I kiss him? When is it safe? How to we become more safe, orally? I performed oral sex on him, but he didn’t on me.. could I catch it IF it wasn’t from me?

My list of questions go on but what should I do? He said it hurts when he doesn’t put Vaseline on it.

Well its vaginal infection, though it doesn’t hurts, no itching ( sometimes), no redress, discharge is normal ( not yellow). Then i thought herpes? i looked up webs >< wah so many infections i found… yea scary but not like mine, mine doesn’t looks that scary and serious. For me its important, I’m not going just sit here and do nothing ( no i didn’t sleep with anyone, but i did masturbate =x) So i think cause of that i’m infected, but then again i have no symptoms, means no feeling ( pain, itching, redness or burning.. well itches sometimes but rare) My boyfriend said i can’t get infected like that ( we are in distance relationship) Only he knows about this my problem. I was thinking that after school graduation i will find job earn $ and go to doctor. But i don’t want to wait 5 months or 4 when i graduate. I want find my answers fast.. so .. yea i’m worried i’m thinking what if it will get serious. It does sorta looks like herpes but not red, not big, its like white dots or how i say more like pimps? nah ;p don’t look like pimps and yea not spreading like herpes does, spreads fast if you don’t cure and get iy checked by doctor. =/ no idea how do i describe it. The pictures of infections i saw x-x didn’t match my description. I feel sad here though my boyfriend told me not to worry about it, but i can’t just sit and not worry about it and ignore it. I don’t want to bother parents, they already done so much for me, so i want them to rest from worries. ^^ The reason i asked this, is because i need help. maybe some of you had similar and know what is it.. Maybe its Bacteria? ( though i didn’t find answer on Vaginal Bacteria, they all say it shows symptoms).. I’m worried what if its really serous infection. or anything.. Thank you for reading.

such as genital herpes, chlamydia, STD’s, HIV, etc. I have this rash and it doesn’t burn but it hurts and it seems like little bumps but not sure… ima schedule me a doctors appointment ASAP… but im just looking for advice… THANKS FOR EVERYONE’S SUPPORT
