What treatment do they give you for Herpes Type 2?
I recently went to the docs and they told me I had herpes simplex virus type 2. They gave me some anti viral medication to clear it up and told me to go to a clinic as soon as it had.
Now that the outbreak had cleared, my partner and I want to go to the clinic but I was wondering if anyone knows any more about the virus? Will I be on medication for the rest of my life now? Or do they just give you stuff for an outbreak?

The Herpes Handbook is an excellent read that tells you all about it.
Go to: http://www.westoverheights.com/genital_herpes/handbook.html
Click on "download the handbook" up the top.. you can get it in .pdf or .doc
Have a read of that and it will explain about what it is, outbreaks and medication.
Hi Becks,
Once you have herpes -you have it for life. There is no "cure" but there are ways to treak breakouts and to help prevent future ones.
There are a few treatments for herpes simplex virus 2 (HSV2). Most are anti-virals like Valtrex, acyclovir or Famvir. These help the outbreak clear up faster and the symptoms to not be as bad.
There are ways to prevent outbreaks -it is usually by taking a lower dose of the anti-virals listed above on a daily basis.
Also, OTC L-lysine 500-1000mg a day has been proven to help prevent future break outs.
I have actually written a few articles on my blog about herpes -HSV1 and HSV2 -I think they will be helpful because they talk about treatment and how to prevent transmission

Hope these help and feel free to contact me with any follow up questions. Take care!
There is no cure for herpes. You will always have it. Some people just take medication for outbreaks, but most take the medication daily, to help reduce the frequency and severity of outbreaks. Herpes can always be transmitted, but risk of transmission is extremely high during an outbreak, and extremely low when there is no outbreak.
