My bf and I have a swollen lump on our inner right thighs next to our genitals?

My bf noticed about a month ago or so maybe longer that he had a red lump on his inner right thigh that became very painful and caused him a lot of pain. We thought it could be a swollen lymph node, but then the pain went away and it shrank. However, I noticed the other day it is still there and causing him little discomfort but nothing like before. Just now I found a lump on my leg in the same spot that is causing me little discomfort. Is this an STD? Herpes? a coincidental muscle pull, a cyst? Help! Just want to make sure its not an STD
